BYU and USC prepare for major early-season college football matchups

Several major college football matchups are scheduled for early September 2026. In Provo, Utah, the No. 14 BYU Cougars will host the Utah Tech Trailblazers at LaVell Edwards Stadium on September 5. BYU, coming off a 12-2 season and a Big 12 Championship appearance, is a heavy favorite. Under an amended contract, BYU will pay Utah Tech $450,000 for the visit, which includes covering officiating costs and providing complimentary tickets.

In Los Angeles, Fresno State enters its first season as a member of the Pac-12. The Bulldogs are set to face the No. 14 USC Trojans at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on September 4. The matchup features USC’s high-ranking offense against a Fresno State defense that ranked 10th in the FBS in yards allowed during the previous season. Fresno State has named Jayden Mandal as the starting quarterback for the upcoming season.
