USDA reports rise in U.S. corn stocks amid declining wheat inventories

According to the latest USDA Grain Stocks report, U.S. corn inventories have increased significantly, rising 35% compared to the previous year. As of September 1, 2026, national corn stocks totaled approximately 2.10 billion bushels, with 787 million bushels stored on farms and 1.31 billion bushels stored off-farm.

In the Southern Plains, corn stocks saw substantial growth: Kansas reported an increase of about 50%, Oklahoma rose by 49%, and Texas saw a 38% increase. In contrast, wheat stocks declined across the United States, falling 14% year-over-year to a total of 1.85 billion bushels. Regional wheat declines were notable in Kansas (down 25%), Oklahoma (down 23%), and Texas (down 38%).

Other commodity updates include a 3% decrease in soybean stocks, totaling 315.133 million bushels, and a 13% drop in sorghum stocks, which fell to 34.952 million bushels due to lower production and high demand.
