Serbia reports trade growth and automotive market trends

Serbia's economic landscape shows significant activity in both the automotive market and international trade. In the used car sector, the Volkswagen Golf remains the most popular model, with nearly 8,000 units sold through August. German manufacturers continue to dominate the used market, while the Toyota Corolla has emerged as the leader for new car sales.

However, market experts from carVertical warn of rising risks in the used vehicle sector. Data indicates that vehicles with a history of damage are twice as likely to have had their mileage manipulated. In Serbia, 5.2% of damaged cars showed signs of mileage fraud, compared to 2.6% of undamaged vehicles.

On the macro level, Serbia's foreign trade exchange grew by 6.4% in the first eight months of 2026, reaching 52.52 billion euros. Exports rose by 8.8%, totaling 23.71 billion euros, while imports increased by 4.6% to 28.81 billion euros. This growth in exports has helped reduce the trade deficit to 5.93 billion dollars.
