Ushuaia plans landfill reorganization and industrial equipment acquisition

The Municipality of Ushuaia is moving forward with plans to reorganize its waste management system. A new bidding process is underway that includes the progressive closure of the highest terrace of the current landfill through engineering works such as waterproofing and sealing. To extend the facility's lifespan, the city intends to enable an additional plot, parcel 223, for domestic waste, which currently requires further infrastructure work and provincial environmental authorization.

In a separate effort to modernize solid waste management, the municipality held a public tender for the acquisition of an industrial wood chipper. Only one company, DEISA (Desarrollo de Equipos Industriales S.A.), submitted a bid. The equipment is intended to treat forestry waste, reducing the volume of material entering the plant and producing chips for composting and reuse.
