Ushuaia municipal infrastructure and waste management

Overview

The Municipality of Ushuaia is conducting various public works and administrative improvements. Initial efforts focused on urban infrastructure, including road improvements on Héroes de Malvinas Avenue, paving in the Los Ñires area, and development at the Paseo Costero. These projects involve soil sanitation, sewage and storm drainage management in coordination with the Provincial Directorate of Works and Sanitary Services, and traffic modifications on Perito Moreno Avenue.

Subsequent developments involve the reorganization of the city’s waste management system. Plans include the progressive closure of the current landfill’s highest terrace through waterproofing and sealing, alongside efforts to enable an additional plot for domestic waste. To modernize these operations, the municipality has initiated a public tender for an industrial wood chipper to treat forestry waste for composting and reuse.
