Ushuaia receives 6,200‑tonne shipment for new thermoelectric plant
A trans‑oceanic vessel docked at the Port of Ushuaia carrying 6,200 tonnes of equipment in 1,840 packages, including turbines, generators, transformers and metal structures. The arrival marks a historic milestone for the province of Tierra del Fuego and starts a key stage of the new thermoelectric power plant project.
Terra Ignis Energía S.A. president Maximiliano Dalessio called the event “historic” and “foundational” for the company and the province. Energy Minister Gabriela Castillo said the shipment materialises years of planning and will enable a main generation unit and a backup system.
The unloading, storage and land‑transport operation, coordinated by Logística Antártica S.A., Austral Petróleo, Gas y Electricidad S.A., and provincial and municipal agencies, is expected to last about ten days and involve moving over 1,800 units. The logistical effort will affect traffic on main city arteries.
Separately, the provincial government approved a direct purchase of US$153,014.40 for emergency generators to address the severe winter power emergency. The power‑plant project is financed entirely by private foreign capital.
