Ushuaia's Cerro Martial opens new quad chairlift, boosting year‑round tourism
On 19 June 2026 the government inaugurated a new quad chairlift at the Cerro Martial ski centre in Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. The modern lift, supplied by Swiss manufacturer Bartholet, features 126 chairs and spans more than 1,400 metres, replacing the ageing infrastructure that had long defined the mountain.
Governor Gustavo Melella said the project “represents the recovery of an emblematic space for the Fuegian community” and will generate jobs and commercial activity. Vice‑governor Mónica Urquiza and tourism institute president Dante Querciali highlighted the expected boost to winter and summer tourism, while centre director Alejandro Guzmán noted that the operation now employs 60 on‑site staff and over 100 indirectly.
The ceremony, scheduled for 13:00, was open to residents and visitors, marking what officials described as a new era for Cerro Martial and an effort to make the mountain a year‑round destination for skiing, snowboarding, trekking and mountain biking.
