US‑Iran cease‑fire pact sparks optimism for Lebanon

Hezbollah hailed the United States‑Iran memorandum of understanding as a "great achievement" that led to a cease‑fire covering Lebanon, praising Iran’s support for Lebanese sovereignty and urging the country to benefit from the regional security umbrella.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, speaking after a phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Arakaji, welcomed the agreement and said it could lower tensions and open diplomatic pathways, emphasizing respect for Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Israeli officials, including Defence Minister Yoav Galant, dismissed the pact, asserting that Israel remains unbound by its terms and will keep forces in southern Lebanon, warning of a full‑scale response to any Iranian aggression.
