US‑Iran ceasefire talks trigger Israeli concerns over Lebanon in Switzerland

The United States and Iran agreed last month to a 60‑day cease‑fire that restored free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and opened negotiations on the handling of Iran’s high‑enriched uranium. Despite the agreement, Iran has continued to attack tankers in the strait and the two sides have issued contradictory statements about allowing International Atomic Energy Agency inspections.

During a subsequent high‑level meeting in Switzerland, officials from the United States and Iran reached a tentative accord on a Lebanon‑conflict‑management framework. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly entered a panic, fearing that the arrangement could limit Israeli forces in southern Lebanon and diminish Israel’s role in the new management system. Israeli officials later sought assurances that their security interests would be preserved.
