US launches tenth consecutive night of strikes on Iran after soldier deaths
The United States has carried out a tenth night in a row of air strikes against Iran, attacking military command centres, air‑defence, missile‑launch and coastal‑surveillance sites to diminish Iran’s ability to threaten commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. President Donald Trump vowed to “punish” Iran after the deaths of three U.S. service members – two in Jordan and one in Iraq – and promised “many times over” retaliation. Tehran has responded by targeting U.S. bases in Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain, claiming two oil tankers exploded in the southern Hormuz corridor. Iranian forces also struck locations in Syria and Saudi‑aligned territories, while Houthi rebels in Yemen announced a blockade of Saudi ports. U.S. casualties have risen to 16 dead and one missing, while Iranian reports cite more than 50 civilians killed and over 500 injured. The ongoing exchange of attacks raises concerns for regional security and the safety of global oil shipments through Hormuz.
