USMCA hailed by chamber and soybean group in House agriculture hearings

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce testified before the House Agriculture Committee, emphasizing that the United States‑Mexico‑Canada Agreement (USMCA) underpins more than 13 million American jobs and supports $59 billion in annual agricultural exports. It highlighted the agreement’s benefits for small‑ and medium‑sized farms, the deep supply‑chain ties with Canada and Mexico, and raised concerns about compliance shortfalls in dairy market access, biotechnology approvals, and tariff violations.

The American Soybean Association’s executive committee member, Minnesota farmer Jamie Beyer, also testified, noting that Canada and Mexico together account for $4 billion, or over 13 % of U.S. soy complex exports. She warned that loss of duty‑free market access would be “catastrophic” for soybean farmers and urged lawmakers to ensure the USMCA’s long‑term renewal and stability.

Both testimonies called for continued certainty, enforcement of the agreement’s rules, and strengthened trade relations to protect U.S. agricultural producers and rural communities.
