US‑mediated Israel‑Lebanon ceasefire agreed; Hezbollah rejects deal

On June 3‑4, 2026 the United States hosted trilateral talks in Washington with Israeli and Lebanese officials, resulting in a joint statement that renews a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon. The agreement stipulates that the ceasefire depends on a complete halt of Hezbollah fire and the removal of Hezbollah operatives from the South Litani sector, and calls for pilot zones where the Lebanese Armed Forces will have exclusive control.

Both sides pledged to move toward a comprehensive peace and security accord, rejected hostile influence from Iran, and affirmed that any future relationship must be decided by the sovereign governments of Israel and Lebanon. Hezbollah’s leader Naim Qassem rejected the framework, calling it “a roadmap to annihilate part of the Lebanese people.” The United States said it will continue to support the Lebanese Armed Forces, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasizing that Hezbollah is an enemy of Israel, the United States and Lebanon.
