USS Abraham Lincoln faces supply shortages due to Iran war logistics disruptions

The USS Abraham Lincoln has faced significant shortages of basic supplies, including food, soap, and deodorant, during its nine-month deployment. These shortages are attributed to major disruptions in Navy supply chains caused by the conflict with Iran.

Iranian missile and drone attacks on key logistics hubs, including a major U.S. base in Bahrain and a port in the United Arab Emirates, have forced the Navy to seek alternative resupply routes. Previously, ships in the Persian Gulf relied on local ports and stockpiles. Due to the damage in Bahrain and the danger in the Strait of Hormuz, replenishment ships must now travel much longer distances to locations such as Diego Garcia or Singapore.

Experts note that these extended routes have drastically reduced the frequency of resupply capabilities. For example, a trip that once took 1.5 days from Bahrain may now take five days from Diego Garcia, meaning replenishment ships that could previously visit the carrier every three days can now only do so every 10 days. This logistical strain has led to a standoff between Navy families and the administration regarding the living conditions of service members at sea.
