USTDA views Honduras energy reform as key to attracting investment
The United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) views Honduras' proposed energy reform as a critical mechanism for attracting significant investment in the country's energy sector. During a visit to Tegucigalpa, USTDA Deputy Director and Chief Operating Officer Thomas R. Hardy stated that the pending legislation could serve as the “spearhead” for increasing capital in energy generation and transmission.
Hardy met with Honduran Energy Minister Eduardo Oviedo to discuss government plans for new generation projects, including gas-based initiatives and pipeline infrastructure. The official noted that these reforms align with the vision of the U.S. administration to strengthen cooperation with hemispheric allies through new investment and collaboration opportunities.
Additionally, Hardy met with President Nasry Asfura to discuss USTDA investments in the interoceanic corridor and broader infrastructure cooperation. Hardy emphasized that the agency focuses on developing infrastructure by taking risks during the initial stages of projects.
