Argentina faces transport fare hikes and labor union disputes

Argentina is experiencing various disruptions in the public transport and labor sectors. In Ushuaia, the municipal company UISE has implemented a new bus fare of $1,550. However, UISE president José Labroca noted that this remains significantly below the actual operating cost, which is estimated at approximately $3,720 per trip.

Labor tensions are rising across several regions. The hotel and gastronomy union, Uthgra, has faced nine months of leadership uncertainty after the government declined to recognize its current authorities, leaving 350,000 members in a state of limbo regarding wage negotiations. In Santa Fe, the UTA union has declared a state of alert and permanent assembly due to insufficient wage proposals compared to the Buenos Aires metropolitan area.

In other municipalities, service quality and logistics are under scrutiny. In La Plata, users have reported overcrowding and infrequent service despite recent fare hikes. Meanwhile, in Moreno, a municipal tender to reorganize communal transport faced setbacks when only one company submitted a bid for the three designated zones, leaving 70% of the service package without interested operators.
