Utah-Colorado Wildfire Claims Three Firefighters' Lives

On June 27, a fast‑moving wildfire that started in Grand County, Utah, crossed into Mesa County, Colorado, merging with the Jones and Knowles fires to become the Snyder wildfire. The blaze burned over 2.8 万英亩 (about 113 km²) and remains uncontrolled.

Three firefighters were killed and two others wounded while combating the fire. Both Utah and Colorado governors declared emergencies; Colorado Governor Jared Polis authorized the National Guard to assist, while Utah Governor Spencer Cox also declared a state of emergency and banned fireworks before Independence Day. Power was shut off in Beaver County by Rocky Mountain Power as a precaution, and red‑flag fire warnings have been issued for much of the western United States.

The fire erupted amid historic drought, low snowpack and extreme heat that have heightened wildfire risk across the western U.S., with the National Interagency Fire Center reporting fire activity far above the ten‑year average.
