UACH workers protest over labor rights and unpaid wages

Workers at the Universidad Autónoma de Chihuahua (UACH) have launched a series of protests and marches to demand the respect of their labor rights and union autonomy. The Sindicato de Trabajadores al Servicio de la UACH (STSUACH) organized demonstrations in Chihuahua City, expanding street closures to include major avenues, and coordinated simultaneous actions in Ciudad Juárez, Delicias, and Hidalgo del Parral.

The union claims the university is withholding full salaries and retroactive payments, while also threatening to renegotiate collective bargaining agreements. In response, UACH Rector Luis Alfonso Rivera Campos stated that the university has maintained dialogue and pointed to an actuarial study regarding the Complementary Fund for Retirees and Pensioners. The rector noted that the fund was exhausted, leading the university to provide a loan of approximately 1 million pesos to the union. While the administration maintains that the expansion of positions depends on federal resources, union members argue the university has sufficient budget to meet its obligations.
