Chile to transition to daylight saving time on September 5

Most of Chile will transition to daylight saving time on the night of Saturday, September 5, 2026. At 23:59, clocks will be advanced by 60 minutes to 01:00 on Sunday, September 6. This change applies to regions from Arica y Parinacota to Los Lagos, including the Maule region.

Exceptions to this change include the Aysén and Magallanes regions, which maintain permanent summer time, and Rapa Nui and Isla Salas y Gómez, which adjust their clocks at a different local time (22:00 on Saturday).

Medical specialists, including Dr. Roberto Arias from Clínica INDISA, warn that the shift can disrupt circadian rhythms, potentially causing fatigue, irritability, and difficulty concentrating. To mitigate these effects, experts recommend gradually adjusting sleep and meal schedules by 15 to 20 minutes in the days leading up to the change, and avoiding oversleeping on Sunday to maintain a stable routine.
