CFE electricity shortages trigger protests and outages in Mexico

Residents and business owners across several regions in Mexico are facing significant disruptions due to persistent electricity shortages and power outages managed by the Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE).

In Cardel, residents of the Vicente López neighborhood blocked the Xalapa–Veracruz highway and protested at the La Antigua toll booth to demand the restoration of service after several days without power. The outage has caused food spoilage and impacted families with medical needs.

In Playa del Carmen, frequent blackouts during high temperatures continue to affect households and businesses, particularly those relying on refrigeration and air conditioning. Despite CFE's reported infrastructure works, residents report ongoing instability and voltage variations.

In the Tres Reyes community, residents have reported recurring outages lasting days. CFE has stated that the area is undergoing a regularization process, noting that approximately 600 families in the second stage currently operate via community meters while land ownership is being legally clarified.
