Uttar Pradesh and Japan explore healthcare and medtech partnerships

Uttar Pradesh and Japan are exploring expanded cooperation in healthcare, medical education, robotics, pharmaceuticals, and skilled manpower. During the UP-Japan Healthcare and Care Economy Partnership session in Lucknow, officials discussed leveraging Uttar Pradesh’s growing healthcare workforce alongside Japan’s advanced technological expertise.

Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak noted that the state is fostering an investment-friendly environment for medical devices and robotics. Discussions are currently underway regarding the development of a medical technology hub covering approximately 400 acres. This initiative builds on a previous agreement between the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) and Medical Excellence Japan (MEJ) to advance research, development, and technology transfer.

To address Japan’s demand for healthcare professionals, officials suggested training Uttar Pradesh’s youth in Japanese language and work culture. The state has also significantly expanded its medical education capacity, increasing its number of medical colleges from 47 to over 83.
