Uttar Pradesh political dispute intensifies over AI-generated videos

A digital conflict involving Artificial Intelligence (AI) generated videos has escalated between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Samajwadi Party (SP) in Uttar Pradesh. The dispute intensified after Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav showcased AI-generated content during a press conference.

The videos shown by Yadav included depictions of individuals in saffron clothing stealing from temple donation boxes and an AI-generated image of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath appearing to smoke. Yadav claimed these videos were sent to him by an external party and were not produced by the Samajwadi Party. He presented them as a response to a previous BJP-linked video that targeted him.

The BJP has strongly condemned these videos, accusing the Samajwadi Party of insulting Hindu saints, religious traditions, and Sanatan culture for political gain. BJP leaders stated that using religious symbols to attack political opponents sends a harmful message to society. This digital escalation highlights the increasing use of AI technology as a tool for political warfare in the lead-up to future elections in the region.
