Uttar Pradesh political landscape shifts as BSP and Karni Sena prepare for 2027 elections

Political activity is intensifying in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the 2027 assembly elections, with both the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Karni Sena making significant moves.

Akash Anand, the BSP National Coordinator, has launched an election campaign in Hathras. He accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of using approximately 7,000 crore rupees of taxpayer money for advertisements over the last decade to hide administrative failures. Anand criticized the Yogi Adityanath government on issues including law and order, school closures, paper leaks, and corruption. He also addressed the Jhansi hospital incident and noted the government's lack of funds for filling over 400,000 government positions despite high advertising spending. Additionally, Anand referred to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav as ‘uncles’.

Separately, Karni Sena President Surajpal Singh Ammu announced that his organization plans to contest the 2027 elections by fielding candidates in 50 to 70 assembly seats. Ammu stated the move is intended to challenge the ‘arrogance’ of the ruling party. During a meeting in Lucknow, he also expressed views on reservation policies, supporting Dr. Smita Mishra for the graduate MLC election, and criticized the handling of controversies regarding offerings at the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
