Uttar Pradesh political parties begin positioning for 2027 elections

Political parties in Uttar Pradesh are beginning to position themselves for the 2027 Assembly Elections. The Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP), led by Om Prakash Rajbhar, has expressed its intent to contest between 35 and 40 seats. The party is seeking a seat allocation from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and has stated that its workers desire Rajbhar to be appointed as Deputy Chief Minister if the NDA forms the government in 2027.

Meanwhile, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), led by Mayawati, is implementing a new strategic approach. The party has indicated it will contest elections alone in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Punjab rather than joining a coalition. Key shifts in BSP strategy include a focus on social engineering through Brahmin candidates and significant internal leadership changes, most notably the removal of Akash Anand from his responsibilities as National Convener.
