Torrential rains, thunderstorms, and strong winds have caused widespread devastation across Uttar Pradesh, resulting in at least 56 deaths and dozens of injuries over a three-day period. The extreme weather, driven by a depression over the region, has led to severe urban flooding, uprooted trees, and the collapse of numerous structures.

Official reports indicate that over 1,000 houses have been damaged or destroyed. The impact on livestock has also been significant, with at least 107 animals reported dead. In several districts, including Sitapur, Lakhimpur Kheri, and Bahraich, the casualties were particularly high. The heavy rainfall has also disrupted transportation, affecting train services and diverting several flights due to low visibility.

Agricultural damage is widespread, with standing crops such as paddy, sugarcane, and vegetables being inundated. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red and orange alerts for various districts, warning of continued heavy to very heavy rainfall. In response, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed administrative officials to ensure rapid relief operations and provide compensation to affected families and farmers within 24 hours.
