Uttarakhand CM reviews rescue of 179 stranded trekkers

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has reviewed an ongoing rescue operation for 179 trekkers and mountaineers stranded in high-altitude regions of the state. The stranded individuals are located in the Uttarkashi and Bageshwar districts, specifically within the Pindari area.

In Uttarkashi, 136 people were reported stranded, of whom 40 have been successfully rescued—including 29 from the Audin Col base and 11 from the Kalindi Pass base. Another 40 individuals have declined rescue, expressing a desire to continue their journey. In Bageshwar, 43 people remain in the Pindari region.

Authorities have deployed eight helicopters for the operation, with a heli-ambulance on standby for medical emergencies. Due to weather conditions, rescue efforts are scheduled to resume at 6:00 AM. The Chief Minister has directed officials to prioritize the safety of trekkers, mountaineers, and porters while monitoring weather patterns closely.
