Uttarakhand high-altitude trekking rescue

Overview

A rescue operation was launched in Uttarakhand to assist 179 trekkers and mountaineers stranded in the high-altitude regions of Uttarkashi and Bageshwar districts. Initial reports indicated that 136 people were stranded in Uttarkashi, with 40 successfully rescued from the Audin Col and Kalindi Pass bases, while 40 others declined assistance. In Bageshwar, 43 individuals remained in the Pindari area.

Authorities deployed eight helicopters to manage the mission, which faced challenges from extreme altitude and weather conditions. The operation at Kalindi Pass, located at an elevation exceeding 5,900 meters, concluded after two days with the successful evacuation of 19 trekkers and porters. All rescued individuals were transported to the Harshil helipad and found to be in stable condition following medical examinations.
