Uttarakhand declares statewide school closures amid heavy rain on July 30, 2026

On July 30, 2026 the Uttarakhand state administration ordered the closure of all schools from class 1 to 12 and Anganwadi centres in the districts of Rudraprayag and Bageshwar after the India Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall and the risk of lightning and landslides. The directive, issued by the district magistrates, emphasized student safety and instructed parents to verify the official notice through school WhatsApp groups or district websites.

Similar closures were reported in other rain‑affected regions of India, including parts of Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Maharashtra and Gujarat, where flooding and water‑logged roads made travel hazardous. In contrast, most districts in Delhi‑NCR, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab remained open as conditions were less severe. Authorities advised residents to monitor updates from the IMD and local officials for any further changes.
