Uttarakhand electoral roll revision faces allegations of mass voter deletion

The Congress party has approached the Election Commission to protest alleged misuse of Form-7 during the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Uttarakhand. The party claims that large-scale applications are being filed to delete voters, particularly in constituencies where Congress holds influence.

Allegations include instances where single individuals have filed objections against thousands of voters. One report indicates that in the Kichha constituency, a single individual—identified as a BJP booth level agent—filed 4,855 objections out of a total of 4,857. Analysis suggests that five men across five constituencies filed approximately 6,500 objections, with the targeted names reportedly being Muslim.

Congress leaders have demanded an inquiry, noting that some objectors appear to reside outside the state or at incorrect addresses. Additionally, over one lakh voters in the Udham Singh Nagar district have been flagged as suspicious due to demographic or photo similarities. The final electoral roll is scheduled for publication on September 15.
