Uttarakhand electoral administration and disputes

The Election Commission of India has taken steps to regulate the political and electoral landscape in Uttarakhand. Initially, the commission barred 17 unrecognised political parties from contesting elections after a physical verification drive revealed they had not contested elections since 2019 and could not be verified at their registered addresses. Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Kishan Singh Negi stated these outfits failed to provide proof of activity, annual returns, or internal elections.

Following these administrative actions, the electoral process has faced political controversy. The Congress party has approached the Election Commission to protest alleged mass voter deletions during a special intensive revision of electoral rolls. The party alleges that individuals, including a BJP booth level agent in the Kichha constituency who reportedly filed 4,855 objections, are using Form-7 to target specific demographics. Furthermore, over one lakh voters in the Udham Singh Nagar district have been flagged as suspicious due to demographic or photo similarities.
