Ganga reaches warning level in Haridwar amid heavy rains
Heavy rainfall has pushed the Ganga River in Haridwar to a water level of 292.55 m, just 45 cm below the 293 m warning mark and 1 m below the danger threshold of 294 m. The flow was recorded at about 144,000 cusecs. Authorities from the Uttar Pradesh Irrigation Department and Haridwar district administration have placed flood‑watch alerts on the riverbanks and warned of possible flooding if rains continue.
The rising water has caused water‑logging across the city, especially in the busy Ranipur Mau area, disrupting traffic and affecting markets, showrooms and offices. Similar conditions have been reported in nearby neighborhoods such as Kankhal, Jwalapur and the new settlement of Bhimgoda. Officials say continued rain in the upstream mountainous catchments could further raise the river level, increasing flood risk for low‑lying areas in Haridwar and downstream districts of Uttar Pradesh.
