Uttarakhand Flood Alerts as Ganga and Tributaries Rise

Heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand's Garhwal division caused the Ganga River in Rishikesh to swell, with water levels rising to about 50 cm below the danger mark. State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Jal Police and disaster relief teams issued a high‑alert warning, urging devotees, residents and tourists to vacate riverbanks at major ghats.

In Rudraprayag district, the Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers surpassed warning thresholds, prompting the district administration to declare a high alert and advise residents to move to safer areas. Relief and rescue teams were placed on standby. The rains caused minor infrastructural damage, including the collapse of a newly built bridge on the Dehradun‑Paonta Sahib highway and water‑logging in parts of Dehradun. The Char Dham pilgrimage was temporarily suspended for safety.
