Uttarakhand Heavy Rain Closes Over 120 Roads, Blocks Yamunotri Highway

Continuous heavy rainfall across Uttarakhand on 12 July 2026 triggered landslides that blocked 126‑128 roads, including the Rishikesh‑Yamunotri and Tawaghat‑Gunji national highways. The State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) and State Disaster Response Force rescued about 100 pilgrims stranded on the Yamunotri stretch using ropes and set up an alternative footpath. Authorities deployed JCB machines, National Highways personnel and the Border Roads Organisation to clear debris and restore traffic.

In Dehradun, a retaining wall collapsed in the Patharia Peer area, injuring a woman and damaging several houses; a separate wall collapse in a construction site left another woman hurt. A temporary bridge in Premnagar was also damaged but traffic continued via a new bridge. District officials issued a red‑alert, directed the construction of a new bridge over the Yamuna River at Syanachatti, and advised residents and pilgrims to avoid non‑essential travel until conditions improve. The India Meteorological Department warned that heavy rain will persist in the region for several more days.
