Uttarakhand Heavy Rainfall Triggers Yellow Alert, Disrupts Roads

The India Meteorological Department issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall across Uttarakhand's districts of Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Nainital, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh. The alert, expected to remain in effect until July 25, warned of intense rain, thunder, lightning and the possibility of landslides and rockfalls in vulnerable areas. The downpours have already impacted daily life: 142 roads were closed, with authorities restoring traffic on 54 of them by evening. Flood‑related waterlogging has caused difficulties for commuters and damage to infrastructure.

The department also cautioned that continued precipitation could lead to further road blockages, river overflows and increased risk of soil erosion in the state's mountainous regions.
