Uttarakhand heavy rains trigger alerts, landslides and rising Yamuna levels

Continuous heavy rainfall across Uttarakhand has led the state Meteorological Department to issue red alerts for seven districts—including Dehradun, Tehri, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital and Champawat—and orange alerts for the remaining districts. The downpours have caused landslides, damaged an unoccupied house in Tehri, and disrupted traffic on 107 routes, including nine state highways and a Border Roads Organisation road. Schools for classes 1‑12 were closed in four districts, and the State Emergency Operation Centre has placed relief and rescue teams on standby. River levels in the Ganga, Yamuna tributaries and other streams have risen, though still below danger marks.

Heavy rain in the upper catchments of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand is also raising water levels at the Hathnikund Barrage on the Yamuna in Yamunanagar. The Irrigation Department is monitoring the barrage closely and has urged residents along the riverbank to avoid the water's edge. Authorities say the situation is under control but remain vigilant for any sudden rise.
