Uttarakhand Issues Tender for 90 MW Battery Energy Storage Project

Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam (UJVN Limited), a state-owned utility, has launched a competitive tender for a 90 MW/225 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to be built near the Chilla Hydroelectric Project in the Pauri Garhwal district. The project will be implemented on a Build‑Own‑Operate‑Transfer (BOOT) basis, with partial Viability Gap Funding from the Power System Development Fund, and will operate for 12 years after commissioning.

Bids must be submitted online by 4:00 PM on 25 August 2026. The tender document costs ₹5,000, with a processing fee of ₹13,50,000 plus 18 % GST. The successful developer will receive land on a right‑to‑use basis near the 132 kV Chilla sub‑station for 12 years, with an additional 18‑month period for construction. The BESS will charge during off‑peak hours and discharge during peak periods to support grid reliability and renewable integration under the Uttarakhand Solar Energy Policy 2023.
