Uttarakhand landslides shut key highways including NH‑5
Heavy rain in Uttarakhand has triggered multiple landslides across the Kinnaur district. In Nigalusri, falling rocks blocked National Highway 5, while landslides in Helang closed the Badrinath National Highway and the Narayanbagh–Karnprayag main road.
The state administration has warned people to avoid the affected routes and has arranged alternate passages, though the alternative roads also face rock‑fall risks. Crews are working to clear debris, but ongoing rainfall hampers restoration efforts.
Meteorological forecasts predict further light to moderate rain with thunderstorms across several districts, prompting yellow alerts for areas such as Tehri, Uttarkashi, Pauri, and Rudraprayag. The continued weather threat raises concerns for local farmers and orchard owners during the apple and pea season.
