Uttarakhand Monsoon Red Alert Triggers Road Closures and Flood Risks Across Northern India

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Uttarakhand as heavy monsoon rains intensify. Landslides have blocked two national highways and 126 other roads, and a building wall collapse in Dehra Doon injured a woman. Authorities have urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel, especially on mountain routes, and disaster‑management teams are on standby.

Similar heavy‑rain warnings have been issued for Bihar, West Bengal and several northeastern states, with IMD forecasting very heavy to extreme rainfall in those regions over the next few days. The monsoon remains weak across much of the country, but in the affected northern and eastern zones the downpours are causing rising river levels, flash floods and further landslide risks. Local administrations have raised yellow alerts in several Uttarakhand districts and advised heightened vigilance.
