Uttarakhand to observe Partition Horrors Remembrance Day

The state of Uttarakhand will observe Partition Horrors Remembrance Day on August 14 through a series of commemorative events aimed at honoring those who lost lives, property, and livelihoods during the 1947 Partition. A state-level programme will be held in Dehradun, attended by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, featuring a two-minute silence and a documentary on the history and contributions of the Matua community.

To educate younger generations, the state will host digital exhibitions across all districts showcasing narratives of displacement and rehabilitation. Additionally, a three-day photo and film exhibition will take place at the Doon Library and Research Centre from August 14 to 16. Dehradun district magistrate Ashish Chauhan has encouraged educational institutions to organize debates, quizzes, and essay competitions to reflect on the historical impact of the event.
