India observes Partition Remembrance and 80th Independence

In August 2026, India observed Partition Horrors Remembrance Day alongside its 80th Independence Day. During his 13th consecutive address from the Red Fort, Prime Minister Narendra Modi outlined the ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India) vision for 2047, which includes providing AI skill training to 10 million youth and offering free online coaching for students.

The Prime Minister noted significant growth over the last 12 years, including a fourfold increase in defense production and a 100-fold rise in digital transactions. In Gujarat, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel supported this vision by focusing on semiconductor production and aiming to increase female employment to 75% by 2047.

Adding to the regional commemorations, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath highlighted his state’s economic transformation during the celebrations. He reported that the state’s budget and economy have nearly tripled, with approximately 50 lakh crore rupees in investment and the creation of over four crore jobs. Adityanath also noted the establishment of over 22,000 startups and a threefold increase in the female workforce.

Reflecting on the historical context of Partition Remembrance Day, Adityanath criticized the leadership of the Congress party regarding the 1947 division. He emphasized a commitment to providing citizenship to displaced persons from Pakistan and Bangladesh, stating that the ‘Developed India’ vision depends on empowering the poor and ensuring farmers are self-reliant.
