Uttarkashi earthquake hits Uttarakhand with 4.2 magnitude
A 4.2-magnitude earthquake struck the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand on Saturday night at approximately 8:07 p.m. The National Centre for Seismology reported the epicenter was located 2 km northwest of Uttarkashi at a depth of 11 km.
The tremors caused panic in Uttarkashi town and the Yamunotri valley, prompting residents to flee their homes for open spaces. As of the latest updates, the Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority (USDMA) has reported no damage to property or loss of life.
This event marks the second significant tremor in the region within four days, following a 4.9-magnitude earthquake that struck the Chamoli district on October 6. Experts note that the Himalayan region remains highly vulnerable to seismic activity due to the collision of the Eurasian and Indian tectonic plates.
