Vaca Muerta energy potential linked to infrastructure and digital growth

Neuquén Governor Rolando Figueroa has announced a shift in the relationship between the provincial government and energy operators in the Vaca Muerta region. The new model focuses on a co-responsibility scheme where private companies participate in financing strategic infrastructure, such as road connectivity, social programs, and local workforce training.

Figueroa stated that this approach aims to reduce the infrastructure deficit and promote sustainable industrial development. Under this framework, companies pre-finance works that also benefit their own operations by reducing logistical and operational costs.

Separately, Miguel Galuccio, CEO of Vista, highlighted the potential for Vaca Muerta's gas to support the global digital infrastructure. During an event in Silicon Valley, Galuccio noted that the growing demand for artificial intelligence will require massive amounts of energy for data centers. He suggested that Argentina's strategic location and reliable energy from Vaca Muerta could make the country a key provider for the energy needs of future digital infrastructure.
