Vaca Muerta energy projects seek billions in international financing

Major energy projects in Argentina's Vaca Muerta region are seeking massive international financing to facilitate liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports.

Argentina LNG, a partnership involving YPF, Eni, and XRG, is currently negotiating a debt package estimated between US$14,000 million and US$16,000 million. Financial advisors JP Morgan and Santander are assisting in the structuring of this deal, which the partners aim to finalize before the end of the year. This financing is intended to fund pipelines, plants, and vessels necessary for the export infrastructure.

Simultaneously, the Southern Energy (SESA) consortium—comprising Pan American Energy, YPF, Pampa Energía, Harbour Energy, and Golar LNG—is nearing the closure of a US$900 million loan. This funding will support the San Matías Pipeline, a US$1,300 million project designed to transport gas from Tratayén in Neuquén to the Atlantic coast. The Southern Energy credit is structured with a seven-year term and a three-year grace period, involving banks from the United States, Spain, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Panama, and China.
