Vaca Muerta fracturing activity rises 12% in August

Fracturing activity in the Vaca Muerta shale formation saw a rebound in August, with 2,262 stages completed, marking a 12% increase from July. Despite this monthly rise, August remains the second-lowest activity month of the year, following a significant drop in July when only 2,010 stages were recorded.

YPF continues to dominate the sector, accounting for 44% of the total activity in August with 998 stages. Vista Energy followed with 416 stages, while Tecpetrol recorded 228 and Shell completed 211. Together, YPF and Vista Energy accounted for over 62% of the month's total activity.

Year-to-date data shows significant growth in the region. In the first eight months of the year, the Neuquén Basin recorded 19,955 stages, a 21.81% increase compared to the same period in 2025. Additionally, reports indicate that for the first seven months of 2026, the market saw 16,978 stages, representing a 19% year-on-year growth.
