Val Trompia school canteen salmonella outbreak affects 117 people

A salmonella outbreak linked to school canteens in Val Trompia, in the province of Brescia, has affected at least 117 people. The outbreak primarily impacted nurseries, kindergartens, and primary schools following meals served on September 10 and 11, 2026.

As of September 18, 13 children born between 2022 and 2025 have been hospitalized. Health authorities report that these pediatric patients are in stable or improving condition, with several expected to be discharged shortly. Laboratory tests have confirmed the presence of salmonella in the symptomatic patients.

ATS Brescia is conducting an epidemiological investigation to reconstruct the chain of infection and analyze the menus served. Simultaneously, the Carabinieri NAS (Anti-Adulteration and Health Nuclei) has opened an investigation to determine potential criminal responsibilities regarding the food supply chain management in the involved facilities.
