Val Trompia school canteens under investigation after Salmonella outbreak

The Brescia Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation into potential negligent injuries following a Salmonella outbreak in school canteens across the Valtrompia region. Approximately 120 people, primarily children attending nurseries and preschools, fell ill, with about 15 requiring hospitalization.

Investigations are targeting several municipalities, including Concesio, Marcheno, Inzino, Magno, Gardone Val Trompia, and Sarezzo. The Nas (Carabinieri for Health Protection) has been tasked with examining the entire food supply chain and preparation methods.

Initial suspicions focus on cherry tomatoes used in meals. Markas, the company managing the catering service and the Inzino cooking center, noted that a specific lot of cherry tomatoes from G&V Ortaggi in Gela, Sicily, was recalled by the Ministry of Health on September 23 due to Salmonella contamination. Investigators are working to determine if this specific lot is linked to the illnesses in Valtrompia.
