Valdepeñas resident under investigation for alleged killing of 40 community cats
The Civil Guard’s Nature Protection Service (Seprona) is investigating a resident of Valdepeñas who claimed in a social media video to have killed approximately 40 community cats. The individual also alleged that he ran over about ten other animals near his property on the CR-6441 road.
The man justified his actions by arguing that cats are predators and suggested that owners should keep them indoors. He also directed insults at a local caretaker and blamed the Valdepeñas City Council for allowing the animals to be fed. While the investigation is open and statements have been taken, no formal charges have been filed against the man at this time.
The Animalist Party (PACMA) has filed a formal complaint and is calling for an urgent meeting with the Valdepeñas City Council. The party is demanding that the municipality fulfill its legal responsibilities under Law 7/2023 to manage, census, and protect community cat colonies through ethical methods such as the Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) protocol.
