Valdieri declares end of Monte Piastra wildfire emergency

The emergency in Valdieri has officially concluded following a nine-day wildfire on Monte Piastra that began on July 31. The blaze destroyed over 120 hectares of vegetation and prompted the evacuation of the Desertetto hamlet.

Following intensive efforts by ground crews and aerial support, including Canadair aircraft and helicopters, rainfall on Sunday, August 9, helped finalize the containment. To mark the return to normalcy, Mayor Guido Giordana rang the bells in Desertetto as a gesture of gratitude toward the responders who worked continuously to manage the crisis.
