Valdieri wildfire enters eighth day with Desertetto hamlet still evacuated

A wildfire on Monte Piastra has been burning for eight days in Valdieri, Italy. The fire remains difficult to control, and the evacuation order for the Desertetto hamlet remains in effect.

Mayor Guido Giordana stated that high temperatures have hindered efforts to extinguish the blaze and that authorities cannot yet lower their guard. Firefighters, volunteers from the Alpi Marittime Park, and AIB personnel are working to manage the situation despite exhaustion.

Authorities are currently using Eurodrone Flight Systems to monitor hotspots with temperatures ranging between 200°C and 400°C. Aerial operations, including the use of the Vigili del Fuoco's 'Drago' helicopter, continue to prevent the fire from gaining new momentum. Due to safety concerns, provincial road closures and evacuation orders remain active.
