Vale posts best Q2 iron ore output since 2018 and elects new board chair
Vale reported its highest second‑quarter iron‑ore production since 2018, delivering 84.3 million tonnes between April and June 2026, a 0.8% increase over the same period a year earlier. The record was driven by the S11D mine in Pará, which produced 23.4 million tonnes—a new quarterly high—while the Sudeste system added 3.3 million tonnes. Total iron‑ore sales rose 3% to 79.7 million tonnes.
In parallel, shareholders elected Manuel Lino Silva de Sousa Oliveira, known as “Ollie”, as the new chairman of Vale’s board. The vote, backed by major shareholder Previ, gave Ollie roughly 62.5% of the votes cast. The election followed the resignation of former chairman Daniel Stieler and a prior attempt to remove him. Separately, the board voted to dismiss councilor Marcelo Gasparino for leaking confidential information.
The strong operating results lifted Vale’s shares, which rose about 3% on the B3 after the announcement, contributing to a broader gain in Brazil’s Ibovespa index.
