Valencia electoral district holds 30% of votes for 16 seats

The Valencia constituency, which holds 16 seats, is a decisive factor in the upcoming elections, with the city of Valencia accounting for over 30% of the total votes cast in the province. In the previous election, the province saw a split result where the progressive bloc won the overall vote by 2,000 ballots, yet the seat distribution resulted in an 8-8 tie between conservative and progressive parties.

The campaign features a direct contest between PP candidate María José Catalá and PSPV candidate Pilar Bernabé. While the city of Valencia showed a strong preference for the right in the last cycle, the provincial results were much tighter.

In a separate development regarding left-wing coalitions, Podemos has announced it will not present candidates for the Senate in the Valencian Community. This decision follows an agreement with Compromís and Esquerra Unida (EU) for Congress lists. Under the ‘Senado de Progreso’ agreement, which includes the PSOE, the Senate seats in the region are expected to be distributed among the PSOE, Compromís, and EU, potentially allowing progressive forces to secure 9 of the 12 available Senate seats.
