Valencian regional electoral developments
Overview
Political activity in Valencia has been marked by large-scale demonstrations and significant shifts in electoral strategy. In April, over 10,000 people participated in protests focused on independence and language defense.
In preparation for the November 29 elections, left-wing forces have formed a strategic coalition named ‘Compromís Front Valencià’, uniting Compromís, Esquerra Unida, Podem, and ERPV to present a single ticket in Valencia, Castellón, and Alicante.
Further tactical agreements have emerged regarding the Senate. Under the ‘Senado de Progreso’ pact, Podemos will not present Senate candidates, allowing seats to be distributed among the PSOE, Compromís, and Esquerra Unida. This arrangement could potentially allow progressive forces to secure 9 of the 12 available Senate seats in the region. Meanwhile, the Valencia constituency remains a critical battleground, holding 16 seats and accounting for over 30% of the provincial vote.
